Currently we offer Ubuntu 8.04.3 LTS. We may add additional shell servers in future depending on what our customers request.

The service is currently in beta, and therefore is free. The service will not go away, but will only get promoted from beta to non-beta by the end of February 2010. After that time we will begin implementing a pricing structure. We are currently targeting less than $10/month (but subject to change) for the service, with discounts for pre-payment. We will provide you with more information when the decisions are made, with plenty of time to make an informed decision.

We offer a generous 5GB of shell disk space, and an additional 5GB of space on the email server. You can use the space as you wish.
We believe that offering customers minimal space is a thing of the past. The pricing structure we pay for our hardware allows us to be more generous with disk space than other providers. We absolutely do not need to reconsider our business model. Some people think "you get what you pay for". If you think you are going to get crappy service from our great pricing structure, then we dare you to sign up and give it a try. If you do not like the service you get from us, we will give you 60 days to request your money back. Note: This money-back does not apply during the beta period, since the price is free during that period -- so why not just sign up and try it out?
Yes! We automatically create a Zimbra email account for you accessable at webmail.01shell.com. The username and password to log in are the same as your shell account, and are always in sync with each other. The email address will be username@01shell.com.
While we do not have an SMTP server running on our shell servers, you can set up your email client to connect to our Zimbra servers via IMAP (see "Can I access my email with POP3/IMAP below). One thing to keep in mind is that our entire Zimbra interface can be navigated with keystrokes. Hit "?" from any screen in webmail to find the list of keyboard shortcuts. If you find something that requires the mouse within webmail, let us know and we will check it out and file a bug report with the vendor through our support license.
Of course. Create a public_html directory within your home directory and place your website in there. You can access your website at www.username.01shell.com (or just username.01shell.com).
During the beta period, backups of your data will be intermittent. By the time the beta is over we will back up your data multiple times a day, and also offering you the ability to easily restore your own data from snapshots taken multiple times a day. Email is backed up nightly at 3AM CST.
Yes. The server names are zo-pop3.cybernetik.net and zo-imap.cybernetik.net respectively. You can also send outbound email through our authenticated SMTP server at zo-smtp.cybernetik.net. Browse to webmail.01shell.com from your iPhone and see how great the interface is.
We run the newest and top of the line hardware. This is NOT a side project, and is a main service which is fully supported by our staff with a SLA agreement (keep reading for details). Our servers are currently Intel Xeon-Nehalem 5520-Quadcore processors. We have several 10Gbit connections to major backbone providers. Network statistics can be found at http://noc.cybernetik.net/. Our equipment is so stable, we offer a 99.99% SLA. If the Service is unreachable more than 5 cumulative minutes in a month as a result of a failure of our network or equipment we will credit your account for a month of free hosting. This guarantee is your sole and exclusive remedy for any and all downtime. Cybernetik.net is not responsible for outages elsewhere on the Internet that hinder access to your account; we control only our links to the Internet, our network hardware, and our servers.
